Relay for Life of East Escambia organizers have been busy getting ready for a spring event.
The big fundraiser is set for May 1 of next year, but those responsible for pulling off the huge event have already been busy preparing for the event.
Through the efforts of those who volunteer their time, talent and energy, thousands of dollars are raised each year to help in the search for a cure for cancer.
The American Cancer Society will benefit from the activities held and raffle items given away that raises those dollars every year. However, those who have been on Relay teams in the past will tell you they help raise those funds to help their friends, family and neighbors.
The Relay for Life committee has set a goal of 25 participating teams for the 2010 event. In order to inform possible team members of what is involved to become part of the event, organizers have planned a kickoff rally next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. At the Brewton Community Center behind city hall on Douglas Avenue.
If you've never been part of a Relay event the rally will give prospective participants an idea of what is expected of them and what they can expect at the event.
We encourage those who want to form a team to begin making plans now to attend the rally. For those who want to join a team but don't know where to start, the rally is a great place to begin.
We hope that everyone will consider being a part of Relay for Life’s fundraising efforts.
Through team membership, sponsorships, donations or moral support, everyone has the opportunity to help find a cure for cancer.
The life you save may be your own.
