Mr. William F. “Fred” Rush, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at a Birmingham medical facility. He was a native of Clay County and had lived most of his life in Cragford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After his discharge he began his career as an educator in the Chilton County School System and in the Clay County School System with a total of 35 years of service. He was a graduate of Auburn University, an active member of County Line Baptist Church and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis Rush and Maude Mae Strickland Rush; a sister, Bernice Huggins; and three brothers, Jack, Allman and Lewis Rush.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juanita C. Rush of Cragford; six sons, Dr. Dwain (Anne Marie) Rush, Dale (Delores) Rush and Dr. Danny (Jill) Rush, all of Lineville, David (Clara) Rush of Cragford, Derwin (Kerry) Rush of Montevallo, and Dru (Connie) Rush of Brewton; a brother, Ernest Rush of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Braden Morrison, the Rev. Randy Anderson and the Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial followed at Clay County Memory Gardens with Benefield Funeral Home directing.
