It had been a month since Robin Hill heard from her son, who is on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. Her brother is serving in Iraq.
To ease her worry, Hill said, she began to sing.
Hill’s son Eric Chavers will be on his way home soon, but she took the opportunity to share her song at the veterans celebration.
Covenant Hospice sponsored the veterans recognition ceremony, during which veterans at the nursing home received a special certificate and a pin honoring their service.
Before veterans received their pins, West Gate resident and World War II veteran Emmit Debrow said a prayer.
Veterans honored at the ceremony included: West Gate residents Frank Fowler, Jesse Williams, Emmitt Debrow, Michael Behrendt, Odile Gillis, Andy Roberson, Todd Williams, Dwayne Higdon and William Mason; and staff member Regina Robinson.
