Two brothers, one a current resident and one a former resident of Brewton, were killed Friday in a car wreck in Guntersville, just month after one had returned from military service in Iraq.
Jonathon Corley Pendleton, 25, of Guntersville, and Sean Christopher Pendleton, 23, of Brewton, were killed when the Mazda RX-8 Sean Pendleton was driving collided with another car, according to reports.
The brothers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report in the Sand Mountain Reporter. A passenger in Pendleton’s car was injured, as was the driver of the other vehicle.
Police reports stated that Sean Pendleton was apparently speeding and lost control of the vehicle in a curve of the road. He had been visiting his brother in Guntersville at the time of the accident.
Sean Pendleton was employed at the Walmart Supercenter in Brewton.
Jonathon Pendleton worked at Fred’s Department Store in Guntersville. Both brothers were members of the Potters House Church in Brewton.
Sean Pendleton was also a 2004 graduate of W.S. Neal High School.
Longtime school counselor Gwynn Shell said she remembered Sean Pendleton as a good student.
Shell said her thoughts were with the brothers’ family. “My heart just breaks for them,” Shell said.
The brothers were the sons of John Walker Pendleton and Carole Ann Fuller Pendleton.
