Escambia County schoolteachers got an early Christmas gift Thursday in the form of an $18,000 check from Senator Marc Keahey.
Escambia County School Superintendent William Hines accepted the check and said the funds would be distributed to teachers in the county.
In other business during Thursday’s meeting of the Escambia County School Board, members unanimously approved the reappointment of Mike Goolsby to serve as chairman of the board with William J. Grissett being named to serve again as the vice chairman.
Hines presented information concerning the replacement of lighting at the stadium located on the campus of Flomaton High School in Flomaton. He said damage done by Hurricane Ivan had not been repaired on the lighting system.
Hines explained that funding to replace the wooden light poles at the stadium with concrete poles would not come out of the general fund of the system.
Following approval by the board to move forward with the replacement project, Hines said work could be completed by spring.
In other business, the board
