The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is still taking applications for Christmas parade entries, but they need to be submitted as soon as possible, chamber administrative assistant Michelle Jones said.
The annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
Santa will arrive on the fire truck throwing candy to children watching the parade. Local businesses and civic organizations, in an effort to receive prize money, will build colorful floats. Mrs. Claus will also be riding in the parade throwing candy as well.
After the parade, Santa has promised to sit in the City Park gazebo. He will talk to the children and hand out surprises.
The Chamber encourages everyone to please use safety precautions during and after the parade.
The parade route is as follows:
The parade will line up in East Brewton on Shoffner Street. It will travel down Forrest Avenue, over the bridge on Mildred Street, to the main intersection at the railroad tracks. It will turn onto St. Joseph Street to Belleville Avenue and will disband on side streets of McLellan, Rankin and Granberry.
Floats must be in place by 12:45 p.m. to be judged. Entrants will receive a letter notifying them where to line up.
The Chamber Board of Directors has set up the following guidelines for judges:
The total number of prizes will depend on the number of floats entered.  If six or less is entered, we will offer three cash prizes.  First place $300, second place $200 and third place $100.  If seven or more floats enter, we will offer an additional $100 prize.
