In a Tuesday game at home against Flomaton Middle School, the W.S. Neal Middle School Lady Eagle basketball team remained undefeated while the boys fell to 1-3.
The Lady Eagles defeated the Hurricanes of Flomaton 39-13 to improve their record while the boys lost 32-31.
W.S. Neal Lady Eagles 39, Flomaton 13
After a close first quarter that saw the Lady Eagles lead by only two points at 6-4, the remaining three quarters were all W.S. Neal as they claimed the 26-point win.
W.S. Neal outscored Flomaton 11-2 in the second quarter to claim a 17-6 lead at the half and followed that up with a 12-5 advantage in the third quarter to lead 29-11 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal outscored the Lady Hurricanes 10-2 to get the win.
The Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School had an 8-0 run in the second quarter and a 7-0 run in the third quarter to claim a 27-9 lead with 1:39 left in the quarter.
Mariah Davis led the Lady Eagles with 10 points in the win and Shyler Dees had eight points.
Daisha Flowers poured in seven points and Jasmine Crook and Lacey Millican both had six points in the win.
Katelyn Millican added two points for the Lady Eagles.
Flomaton 32,
W.S. Neal boys 31
A five-point advantage for Flomaton in the second quarter was the difference in the game Tuesday for the W.S. Neal boys as they lost by one point to fall to 1-3.
After an 8-8 game after the completion of the first quarter, the Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School scored only three points in the second quarter to Flomaton’s eight to trail 16-11 at the half.
In the second half, the Eagles outscored Flomaton 11-8 in the third quarter and 9-8 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as they lost by one point, 32-31.
With the lead cut to two points at the end of the third quarter, 24-22, Flomaton jumped out to a 29-22 lead to open the quarter and held a 31-24 lead with 1:23 left in the game.
From there, W.S. Neal cut the lead to 32-29 with 24.4 seconds left to play after Flomaton hit their first free throw but failed on the second shot.
With the lead cut to three points, W.S. Neal fouled and Flomaton missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw and W.S. Neal grabbed the rebound and after two missed 3-pointers, Zach Haveard cut the lead to 32-31 with four seconds left in the game.
A foul with .7 seconds left and missed free throws gave W.S. Neal a chance to win, but the long toss fell short as Flomaton hung on for the win.
W.S. Neal’s losses have come in overtime, a buzzer beater against Brewton, and a one-point loss Tuesday.
Quantae Barksdale led W.S. Neal with nine points in the loss and Antwan Jones followed with eight points along with Devin Stallworth.
Haveard finished with six points.
W.S. Neal was set to take on  Flomaton again on the road on Friday .
W.S. Neal will be back in action on Wednesday at Jay at 4 p.m. before ending their season at home on Thursday against Brewton at 4 p.m.
The Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School improved to 5-0 Thursday and the boys improved to 2-3 with wins over McCall Thursday on the road.
The Lady Eagles won 23-22 and the boys won 33-20.

With the game tied 20-20 heading into the third quarter, W.S. Neal scored three points to McCall’s two to win by one point.
W.S. Neal led 8-3 after the first quarter and 18-13 at the half after both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter.
McCall tied the game at 20-20 with a 7-2 advantage in the third quarter and W.S. Neal claimed the fourth quarter to win.
Mariah Davis and Shyler Dees both had seven points in the win and Daisha Flowers added five points.
Jasmine Crook chipped in four points.

Earnst Benjamin had 16 points and Michael Williams had 10 points as W.S. Neal improved to 2-3 this season.
The game was tied at 7-7 at halftime after McCall led 5-3 after the first quarter and W.S. Neal outscored McCall 4-2 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal outscored McCall 16-2 to take a 23-9 lead. The fourth quarter saw McCall hold an 11-10 lead to win by 13 points.
Along with Benjamin and Williams, Rob Jones had four points and Antwan Jones had one.
