Escambia County Republicans rallied around attorney general candidate Luther Strange Monday night during their annual Christmas party.
Strange announced his candidacy for the office in May and began the campaign trail which has made its way to Brewton.
The candidate and his wife were greeted by a group of Republicans at the Hourglass, where Jeff Peacock, local Republican representative, welcomed the special guest.
Strange, an attorney from Birmingham who put himself through law school by working in the Merchant Marine, ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2006.
Strange made it to Brewton this week by way of Dothan, Florence, Montgomery, Pell City and other destinations along his campaign trail.
Tom and Jane McMillan acted as hosts for Strange and his wife during their visit to Brewton. Tom McMillan said Strange’s campaign is gaining momentum.
Strange expressed his appreciation for the work of those in Escambia County and across the state.
Strange said the campaign trail had already been filled with several endorsements on his run for office.
Strange said his love for the state of Alabama inspired him to run for office. He said people need to be involved in politics to make the state better for now and the future.
Strange was also the guest of honor at a special fundraising dinner Tuesday evening with the Escambia County GOP organization. The group will hold their regular December meeting on Dec. 17 at The Hourglass in downtown Brewton beginning at 6 p.m.
