Tigers fall in opener

Trailing by 18 points with just over four minutes left in the game, the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers basketball staged a 12-0 run to close within six points. But, they could not hang on bringing about a loss to Escambia County 56-47 Friday. They fall to a record of 0-1.
T.R. Miller trailed 49-31 with 4:19 left in the game only to go on a furious rally to cut the lead to 49-43 with 2:08 left to play.
Escambia County ended the run to go ahead 51-43 with 1:20 left in the game.
Forced to foul to have a chance to overcome the Blue Devils, T.R. Miller would only get as close as seven points as the Blue Devils were 7-of-13 down the stretch from the line.
T.R. Miller had their chances after fouling the Blue Devils to get back in the game but was 2-for-8 after the 12-0 run from the line as they lost by nine points.
Overall, the Tigers were 13-for-24 from the line while the Blue Devils were 16-for-32.
The Tigers trailed by as much as 20 points in the game after Escambia County had a 6-0 run before the Tigers run.
One other thing Edge noted was how pleased of the big turnout for the game he was.
In the game Friday, T.R. Miller held a 12-10 advantage after the first quarter but had their lead turn into an eight-point deficit as they were outscored 19-9 in the second quarter to trail 29-21 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller managed only two points while Escambia County scored nine to have seven-point deficit in the quarter and trail 38-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, T.R. Miller outscored the Blue Devils 24-18, but lost by nine points.
Derrick Riley led the Tigers with 19 points and Terez Lane added 11.
Joe McCorvey had six points and Keenan Pride had four points.
Deonte Powell chipped in three points and Wes Dickey and Anthony Herbert both had two points in the loss for T.R. Miller.
T.R. Miller took on Andalusia at home Tuesday night and will be back in action on Friday against W.S. Neal in East Brewton.
The B-teams will begin play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the girls game and then varsity action.
