Blair Auto Sales celebrated its 20th anniversary last month, 14 with Rufus D. Blair at the helm and another six with David R. Blair, his son.
Rufus Blair said he didn’t always have the dream of having his own business. In fact, he worked with Skinner’s Furniture and Hainje’s before he started his own business in East Brewton.
Working for himself, Blair found he had to improvise sometimes.
After driving a truck for some time, Blair said he realized that he was always on the road. He didn’t get to spend time with his family.
Wanting to spend more time with family — and having learned how to manage on his own while he was on the road so much — Blair decided to strike out on his own at home.
Blair said the business has changed over the years.
Blair ran the business for the next 14 until the time came that he wanted to “enjoy the fruits of his labor.” He talked to his son, David, about taking over the business. David had been living out of town, and it gave him the opportunity to bring his family back home.
