Fire officials are investigating two fires they consider suspicious at a trailer park on U.S. 31 North.
M&M Mobile Home Park — still known to many residents as the Blueberry Hill Trailer Park — has been the site of multiple fires in recent months, fire officials said.
State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk said his office has opened an investigation into the two fires.
Appleton volunteer firefighter Ginny Tyler said firefighters from Brewton responded to a trailer fire about 6 p.m. Dec. 13. The trailer was unoccupied and had no power at the time of the fire.
Because the fire occurred within the jurisdiction of the Appleton Fire Department, that department was notified around 8:30 p.m. that same evening and told that the fire had flamed back up. Appleton firefighters responded to the scene but found no problem, Tyler said.
At 12:30 a.m. the fire department received another call about a second fire in the same trailer park. That fire was also in an unoccupied trailer with no power, Tyler said.
Although the two trailers were parked in the same trailer park, they were not located next to each other.
In June, Jody Romero was killed in a fire that appeared to start in the kitchen of the trailer in which she was staying. At the time of the blaze, an extension cord stretched from the home where Romero lived to another mobile home about 200 yards away.
Another fire occurred last fall, but no one was injured and that trailer had also been unoccupied.
No one was hurt in either fire on Dec. 13.
Paulk said he hopes to receive cooperation from the public regarding the fires.
