Champions again|Lady Tigers claim county tournament

Once again, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger basketball swept their Escambia County tournament foes to claim their third straight county tournament championship Monday night in Flomaton.
The Lady Tigers improved to 8-1 with the sweep of teams.
T.R. Miller opened the tournament with a 66-33 win over Escambia County and defeated W.S. Neal 45-20 on Saturday.
On Monday, the Lady Tigers faced off with 2-0 Flomaton in the championship game and grabbed a 40-21 win to take the championship.
The championship win improved T.R. Miller to 26-1 in tournament games since 2001 and posted another 3-0 sweep.
T.R. Miller has swept tournament teams from 2001-2005 and from 2007-2009.
The only loss for T.R. Miller was in 2006 when they lost to Escambia County in the tournament championship game 49-39. Before the Escambia County loss, the Lady Tigers were 17-0 in tournament games.

In what started out as a close game in the first quarter, turned into a rout in favor of the Lady Tigers in the second quarter as they cruised to an opening round win over Escambia County 66-33 on Friday to start the tournament with a win.
Leading 15-11 after the first quarter, T.R. Miller went on runs of 15-0 and 22-0 in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Blue Devils 33-7 in the second quarter to hold a 48-18 lead at the half.
The point total in the second quarter for the Lady Tigers matched Escambia County’s total for the whole game.
T.R. Miller extended their lead by three at the end of the third quarter as they outscored Atmore 6-3 to take a 54-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams scored 12 points in the fourth quarter as T.R. Miller earned the 33-point win.
Jackson said he has two or three players that can get him some valuable minutes.
Nakiya Smith, the tournament MVP, led the Lady Tigers with 26 points in the win and Keydra Shedrone and Courtney Jones both had 12 points in the win and Leah Brundidge added 10 points.
LaTeysia Montgomery, Elizabeth Reed, and Hillary Boyd all had two points.

With the game tied 3-3 at the 4:51 mark in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller used a 25-0 run over the first and second quarters to hold a 28-3 lead and claim a 45-20 win over W.S. Neal.
The win improved T.R. Miller to 2-0 in the tournament and to 7-1 overall.
W.S. Neal fell to 0-2 in tournament play and to 6-5 overall.

With a 13-0 run to end the first quarter, T.R. Miller led 16-3 after the first quarter and with the run extended, led 35-6 at halftime.
Both teams scored five points each in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 40-11 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal held a 9-5 advantage to cut the lead but T.R. Miller won by 25 points.
Smith led T.R. Miller with 16 points and Shedrone had 15.
Brundidge added six points and Jones and Shay Kiser both had four points in the win for the Lady Tigers.
For W.S. Neal, Folmar led with 11 points and Askew had five.
Elisha Wilmer had two points and Megan Andrews and No. 40 (name unknown) had one point in the loss.

For the third straight year, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers clinched another perfect Escambia County tournament as they swept the competition and improved to 8-1 with a 40-21 win over Flomaton Monday.
The Lady Tigers, leading 10-6 after the first quarter, went on a 16-0 run over the second and third quarters and used an 8-0 run later in the third quarter to build a halftime lead to 20-6 and a lead of 32-15 heading into the fourth quarter.
T.R. Miller had 10 points in the first and second quarter while Flomaton had six in the first and no points in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller outscored Flomaton 12-7 before outscoring them 8-6 in the fourth quarter to seal the win by 19 points.
Smith had 18 points to lead in the win and Shedrone added 13.
Jones had four points and Brundidge had three. Brittany Rush added two points in the win for T.R. Miller.
For the girls, T.R. Miller took first place going 3-0 and Flomaton finished second with a 2-1 record. W.S. Neal took third with a 1-2 record and Atmore placed fourth, as they were winless.
Along with Smith being named MVP, Keydra Shedrone and Courtney Jones were named to the all tournament team for the Lady Tigers.
