Deadline for assessment, tax exemptions nears

Property owners in Escambia County have less than a week to make final changes in assessment filings for the 2010 tax year.
Officials with the Escambia County Tax Assessor’s office have set a deadline of Dec. 31 for claiming exemptions for the 2010 tax year concerning property taxes.
The deadline includes property owners who have purchased homes since Oct. 1, 2008 through Oct. 1, 2009 and all property owners who wish to claim an exemption of age 65 years old or older. Exemptions may also be claimed for those property owners who are totally and permanently disabled.
Persons who wish to claim current use on agricultural land must file and application by the Dec. 31 deadline.
For additional information concerning property tax exemptions or assessment processes, contact the Escambia County Tax Assessor’s office at the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue or contact them by phone at 867-0303. Atmore area residents may visit the satellite courthouse on U.S. 31 in Atmore or call the offices at 368-8078.
Office hours for the tax assessor are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday  through Friday.
