Mr. Jackson Wheelus “Jabo” Rowell Jr., 74, of Kirkland Road, died Dec. 19, 2009 at a Pensacola, Fla., hospital. He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He retired from public services after 44 years of service with the City of Brewton. He began his work in the police and fire departments and eventually became supervisor of the utilities department. He attended Dogwood Hills Assembly of God Church and was a skilled hunter, fisherman and trapper.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Machael A. Rowell and Jackson W. Rowell, III.
He is survived his wife of 32 years, Joan Blair Rowell of Brewton; one son, Jack (Terri) Rowell of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Jeannine Hallford of Brewton; two stepsons, David (Barbara) Rowell and Ricky Rowell, both of Brewton; one brother, Don Rowell of Brewton; one sister, Janice (John) Wingo of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren, Bart, Brooke, April, Dewayne, Ricky and Daniel; seven great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Donna Wingo Brown.
Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Quick and the Rev. James Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery with Williams Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
