With more than a week’s worth of holidays, celebrations have been non-stop of late. With the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebrations just days away it’s time to turn those celebration thoughts to safety.
Alabama Highway Patrol Officers have long encouraged drivers to abstain from drinking before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. Not only does that advice make good common sense, it is also a reminder that driving under the influence is against the law.
So far this holiday season, State Troopers have reported seven traffic deaths in Alabama. Two of those deaths were directly related to the use of alcohol. Six of the reported deaths came to those who chose not to use seatbelts during their travels.
As the New Year approaches and celebrations continue for several more days, we encourage our readers to buckle up when getting into a vehicle. We also encourage those who do a little extra celebrating to consider having a designated driver available for after the party.
Law enforcment officers around Brewton, East Brewton and across Escambia County and the state will be watching for any signs of drivers who are driving impaired.
