When Janet Cunningham began working in the insurance industry in 1977, she never imagined she would be considering retirement 33 years later.
Cunningham began her career as a customer service representative with Escambia Insurance Agency. The agency became known as The Securance Group three years ago.
Over the course of her 30 plus years in the business, things have certainly changed, Cunningham said.
Although rating policies and other policy service is now done by computer, Cunningham said her days of completing the work by hand have been long gone.
Learning how to rate policies got Cunningham interested in becoming an agent, which she did shortly after beginning her work in the industry.
Through the years, Cunningham had discussed the possibility of retirement with her husband on several occasions.
Cunningham plans to spend her retirement time doing things she hasn’t had time for over the years.
Cunningham also has five other reasons to enjoy her retirement.
Cunningham’s last full day on the job was Dec. 31. She said she had plans for the first work day after retirement.
