Mrs. Dora Belle Sims Ard, 93, died Dec. 25, 2009 at a Pensacola, Fla., hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of McDavid and was a lifelong member of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ard; her parents, Conrad and Carl Sims; and two sisters Clara Gee and Hazel Brown.
She is survived by four daughters, Frances (Richard) Townes, Joann Freeman and Mary (Gary) Graf, all of Cantonment, Fla.; and Connie Rigby of McDavid; seven grandchildren, Pamela Ammerman, Cyndi Daniel, Tony Rigby, Gena Rigby, Alan Graf, Julie Cartwright and Jason Freeman; eight great-grandchildren, Angela Baker, Matthew Ammerman, Dalton Daniel, Brenden Clay, Alyssa Clay, Josie Cartwright, Tyne Freeman, Kaylee Freeman and Madison Ammerman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dexter Truesdell and the Rev. Phil Enfinger officiating. Burial followed at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Richard Townes, Gary Graf, Tony Rigby, Jason Freeman, Kenny Cartwright and Nathan Daniel. Honorary pall bearers were Melvin Ard and Albert Ard.
