Playing hard|After loss, Lady Tigers go 2-0 in tourney

After receiving a rare loss to open the Clarke County Holiday Classic Monday against Thomasville, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers picked up wins in their final two games to improve their record.
T.R. Miller defeated Clarke County Tuesday night 43-33 to improve to 9-2 and defeated Marengo 58-45 on Wednesday to improve to 10-2.
The Lady Tigers were set to be back in action today at home against Choctaw County in an area game.
Game time is set for 1 p.m., with the B-teams playing each other followed by the Lady Tigers and then the varsity team will take the floor as the last game of the day.
Following Saturday’s game, the Lady Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at home against Bayside Academy in another area game.
Game time for that game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Brewton.
T.R. Miller 43, Clarke County 33
The Lady Tigers used a 15-6 first quarter against Clarke County Tuesday to help lead them to a 43-33 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
After the nine-point advantage in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers outscored Clarke County 11-9 in the second quarter to take a 26-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers extended their lead by two points as they had a 12-10 scoring advantage to hold a 38-25 lead head into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Clarke County outscored the Lady Tigers 8-5 to cut the lead by three points, but T.R. Miller was able to hang on for the 10-point win, 43-33.
Nakiya Smith led the Lady Tigers with 14 points and Keydra Shedrone added 13 points.
Leah Brundidge and Courtney Jones both had eight points for the Lady Tigers in the win.
T.R. Miller 58, Marengo 45
The Lady Tigers had three players in double figures in their tournament finale against Marengo to prevail in a 58-45 win and improve to 10-2.
Smith led with 21 points and Brundidge added 15 in the win. Keydra Shedrone poured in 10 points for the Lady Tigers trio of double figure scorers.
Jones added seven and Desiree Gibbs chipped in five points in the win for the Lady Tigers.
T.R. Miller led 18-12 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 38-25 at the half following a 20-13 second quarter in favor of the Lady Tigers.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller edged out Marengo 11-9 to hold a 49-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Marengo returned the favor scoring as they held an 11-9 advantage to cut into the Lady Tigers lead by two points but it was not enough as T.R. Miller was able to hang on for the 13-point win, 58-45.
