Mr. Floyd A. Bales, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in a Jay hospital. He was a native of Gibson, Ga., and a member of the Century community since 1989, coming from Ocala, Fla. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and receiving the Victory Medal. During his working years, he was a truck driver. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra McCauley; a sister, Elinor Dandridge; and brothers, Frankie Bales and William Bales.
He is survived by his wife of more than 29 years, Florene Williams Bales of Century; six sons, James Bales of Dallas, Texas, Steve Bales of Wildwood, Fla., Michael Bales and Jeffrey Bales, both of Georgia, Kevin Bales of South Carolina, and Ronald Bales of Dewitt, Ark.; a daughter, Hlda Fraize of St. Charles, Ark.; a brother, Grady Bales of Walterburg, S.C.; a sister, Helen Trosclair of Jacksonville, N.C.; a special niece, Hannah McPherson of Century; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 4, at 1:15 p.m. at Barrancus National Cemetery with the Rev. Earl Green and the Rev. William Chancery officiating and Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
