Mrs. Helen Claire Byrd, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at her residence. She was a native of Mobile and had been a resident of Flomaton since 1971. She was a retired bus driver with the Escambia County School System. She was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ray Byrd; her father, William Arzo Wiggins Sr.; a brother, William Arzo Wiggins Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Jaylyn Franklin.
She is survived by her mother, Doris D. Wiggins of Mobile; a son, Eddie Ray Byrd of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Joan (Steve) Gainous of Satsuma, Jane Franklin of Brewton, and Jill Byrd and Julie (Shane) Booth, both of Flomaton; a brother, James Edward (Linda) Wiggins of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. James Sturdivant officiating. Burial will follow at Pollard Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.
