With a new year upon us, we have some opportunities to look ahead — and one of the things that will happen in Brewton this year is the celebration of the city’s 125th anniversary.
In June, Brewton will honor the city’s anniversary during the annual Bluberry Festival, with a number of activities planned that weekend.
To help celebrate the anniversary, our annual Progress edition, set to publish at the end of February, will have the theme “125 Things to Love About Brewton and East Brewton.” That list, of course — which we will highlight with stories and photos — is just a sampling of the many things we have to celebrate about our communities.
And we have a couple of ways that readers can help us with our annual Progress edition. The first is a photo contest — we want you to show us, in photos, your favorite things about Brewton and East Brewton.
Your favorite thing might be the view from your front porch or the pond in your backyard; it might be your grandchild or your faithful puppy.
The contest deadline is Jan. 29. First prize is $100, second prize is $50 and third prize is $25. We will announce the winners and include the best photos submitted in our Progress edition.
Send photo contest entries to newsroom@brewtonstandard.com.
Another way you can help us pick our favorite things about Brewton and East Brewton is to submit nominations for Unsung Heroes. Unsung Heroes are those people who help out — doing volunteer work, helping their neighbors — without any expectation of thanks or recognition.
We have so many people in our community who give of themselves, and we want to recognize them for their hard work.
Submit nominations for Unsung Heroes to newsroom@brewtonstandard.com.
We hope all of our readers will help us celebrate our communities and Brewton’s 125th anniversary.
