T.R. Miller B-team Tigers fall late

Leading by one point with less than 40 seconds to play Saturday at home against the Choctaw County Tigers, the T.R. Miller Tiger B-team fell to four points in less than 10 seconds. The Tigers were  outscored 7-2 in that span to drop a 40-36 decision.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-3 overall this season.
With the game tied at 27-27 at the end of the three quarters, a quarter that saw T.R. Miller lead 27-20 with 3:03 left to play before Choctaw County went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter, Choctaw County made it an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter as they claimed a 28-27 lead with 5:50 left to play in the game.
T.R. Miller ended the run with two free throws from Darrion Salter to take a 29-28 lead with 4:07 left to play.
A Choctaw County 3-pointer at the 2:20 mark gave the visiting Tigers a 31-29 lead. Jerric Woods answered with a 3-pointer of his own for T.R. Miller to put the Tigers back on top 32-31 with 2:02 left in the game.
Choctaw County took a 33-32 lead with 1:41 left to play only to see T.R. Miller answer with a bucket from Mark Bryant to go on top 34-33 with 1:10 left to play.
From there, Choctaw County scored and stole the ball from T.R. Miller to turn a one-point deficit into a 37-34 lead with 29 seconds left in the game.
Caleb Hubbard’s basket brought T.R. Miller within 37-36 with 10.2 seconds left in the game.
Choctaw County ended the game with a basket and a free throw to go on top 40-36. They held on for the win over the Tigers of Brewton.
T.R. Miller was outscored 11-8 in the first quarter after a 9-0 Choctaw County run, but responded with a 6-0 run in the second quarter to help cut the lead to 18-17 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller outscored Choctaw County 10-9 to tie the game, but fell to a 13-9 scoring advantage for Choctaw County in the fourth quarter to lose by four points.
Salter led the Tigers with 11 points and Woods added seven points.
Hubbard had six points in the game. Aaron Yuhasz and David Barragan had four points each.
Bryant and Rickey Curry both had two points in the loss for the T.R. Miller B-team.
T.R. Miller was set to play Bayside Academy Tuesday at home and will travel to Cottage Hill Friday night for a 4:30 p.m. tip off.
