In a close second half, the Jackson Lady Aggies connected for one of two free throws with 5 seconds left to defeat the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles 30-29 Tuesday night in East Brewton.
The loss dropped W.S. Neal to 7-6 overall and to 0-2 in area play.
In a low-scoring first half of play Tuesday night in East Brewton, W.S. Neal led 8-5 after the first quarter of play and 12-7 at the half following a 4-2 scoring advantage in favor of the Lady Eagles in the second quarter.
In the second half of play, Jackson cut the lead to 12-9 just 12 seconds into the third quarter. W.S. Neal came back to go on top 15-9 with 7:16 left in the quarter. The score came after an Angelique Askew bucket and a Keyvonnia Kyles free throw.
After Jackson cut the lead to 15-11 at the 6:47 mark, W.S. Neal went on a 6-0 run to hold a 21-11 lead with 4:19 left in the quarter.
After the run to take a 10-point lead, W.S. Neal was held scoreless the remainder of the quarter while Jackson went on a 10-0 run to end the quarter with a 21-21 tie.
Jackson outscored W.S. Neal 14-9 in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, both teams alternated baskets between each other, as the game was tied 27-27 with 3:50 left to play.
At the 1:49 spot in the game, W.S. Neal was fouled to set up a one-and-one free throw attempt. The first shot was missed and Jackson took the rebound, but could not do anythingwith the ball.
The Lady Eagles were once again faced with a one-and-one chance at the line. Freida Folmar put W.S. Neal on top with one made free throw at the 1:07 mark by a score of 28-27.
After the missed second shot, Jackson grabbed the rebound but turned it over with 56 seconds to play. The ball was stolen from W.S. Neal and score to go on top 29-28 with 38 seconds left.
With 22 seconds, Folmar was 1-for-2 from the free throw line to tie the game at 29-29.
With 10 seconds left, Jackson missed a shot at a one-and-one free throw but grabbed the rebound and after a miss was fouled with 5 seconds left to play.
The Lady Aggies went 1-for-2 to take a 30-29 lead and desperation 3-pointer for the Lady Eagles fell short as Jackson took the one-point win.
Roberts said the area loss to Jackson has really put his team in a bind as far as the area is concerned.
Folmar led the Lady Eagles with 10 points and Kyles added nine points.
Angelique Askew added six points and Megan Andrews had two points along with Briana Hawthorne.
W.S. Neal was 3-for-9 from the free throw line while Jackson was 5-for-10.
W.S. Neal was set to be back in action Friday at home against B.C. Rain.
The Eagles will take on Northview Monday on the road at 4 p.m. for the first of five straight road games.
The Eagles  will take on T.R. Miller Tuesday in Brewton with tip off time set for 4:30 p.m.
