West Gate Village, LLC.  recently underwent an annual survey conducted by the Alabama State Department of Health and was found to have no deficiencies. 
Each year, every state licensed nursing facility undergoes this rigorous inspection, which covers all aspects of patient care.
In conducting a survey for re-certification, a team of nurses and other health care professionals enter the nursing facility unannounced and begin a thorough inspection. 
Resident charts are randomly selected and audited for proper charting, adherence to physician’s order’s and state and federal guidelines and any unseemly accidents or incidents. Nursing procedure is observed. Residents and staff members are interviewed. Equipment is checked. Food handling and preparation is scrutinized. Overall cleanliness and upkeep are evaluated. Patients are examined in order that no conditions or problems such as skin breakdown, disorientation or incontinence have gone unnoticed.
The survey process can last several days and result in a report, which cities the deficiencies identified. It is required that facilities promptly answer these reports of deficiency with a plan of correction. The state then conducts a follow-up survey to ensure compliance. Facilities are also required to post the results of each annual survey for public access.
Director of Nursing Susan Harp said the staff should be proud of the recognition.
West Gate Village is one of the 14 facilities in Alabama operated by Crowne Management. Crowne Management is based in Monroeville.
