Mr. Johnnie James Lanier Sr., 92, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, in a Mississippi medical facility after a brief illness. He was a native and long-time resident of Alabama. He was a member of Ridge Road Baptist Church,  and the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He is survived by a son, Johnnie James (Julia) Lanier Jr. of Mobile; a daughter, Jamie Lanier (John) Pace of Brandon, Miss.; a sister, Idelle Lanier Lowery of Brewton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy White officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
