A Boykin man died Sunday in what officials are calling the first death suspected to be related to frigid temperatures during the past week.
Larry Fantroy, 61, died Sunday in a house in the Boykin Community.
Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said the death is likely a result of temperatures that dipped below 20 degrees over the weekend.
Sheriff’s investigator Matt Hammond said the man lived alone and had no heaters.
Smith and Hammond said an autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Smith encouraged residents to check on the elderly or disabled in their community during cold weather.
Temperatures are forecast to be warmer this week, although tonight’s low could dip below freezing again. Weekend high temperatures are expected to be in the 60s, with lows in the 40s.
