Students sing in ‘Huck’

Huckleberry Finn will be meeting his best friend Tom Sawyer in a musical event scheduled for this weekend at the Woodfin-Patterson Auditorium on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College.
A production of Brewton Community Theatre, “Huckleberry Finn: The Musical” will be presented with actors and actresses who are part of the after-school theatre program at Pollard-McCall Junior High School.
Under the direction of Tyler Parker, teacher of the theater group, a cast of 30 thespians will take the stage this weekend in four performances. Show times are at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5.
The remaining roles being portrayed by members of the Brewton Community Theatre troupe, Parker said.
Parker said funding for plays, especially musicals, is sometimes difficult to find. However, a grant awarded for the after-school program has made the presentation of the production possible.
Parker said the Pollard-McCall students have been involved in the after-school program since September and have rehearsed scenes from the musical for several weeks.
Taking on the title role for the production is Coale Jordan. Brandon Patterson portrays huck’s best friend, Tom Sawyer. Other cast members of the musical include Grace O’Bannon as Sarah Williams; Baylen Lehmann as Laurie Adams; Shawdale Ballard as Duke; Scotty Barrow as King; Leanne Blackman as Sheriff Jenkins; Melinda Tolin as the County Marshall and Dr. Robinson; Kayla Partin as Mary Jane Wilks; Emily Fayard as Susan Wilks; Kristin Fillmore as Joanna Wilks; Robin Allen as Widow Bartley; Dick McEwan as Ben Rucker; Leanne Blackman as Mrs. Ben Rucker; Jessica Butts as Mrs. Hobson; Sharmon O’Bannon as Henrietta Bell; townspeople will be portrayed by Amy Bruner, Connie Parker, Brock Patterson, Lexi Clark, Madison Moye, Tanner Evans, Kandice Ballard, Libby Ballard, Gabbie Robinson, Bailey Riddle, Harley Butts, Katelyn Phillips, Shana Phillips, Hannah Kimball, Grace Ruzic and Steely Ruzic.
