T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers came away with a win over the Lady Blue Devils Tuesday in Atmore.
The varsity and B-team Tiger teams were not so lucky. Each of the two boy’s teams lost on the road.
The No. 10-ranked Lady Tigers improved to 18-2 overall with a 64-44 win while the varsity Tigers fell to 0-17 with a 47-38 loss.
The B-team Tigers lost 50-38 to fall to 3-8 overall.
All teams were set to take on Monroe County Friday night and will be back in action today at home against Hillcrest at 4 p.m.
The teams will end their regular season with an away game at Flomaton Monday at 4:30 p.m.
The Lady Tigers will host the area tournament as the No. 1 seed beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m. when they take on No. 4 seed Cottage Hill.
Choctaw County and Bayside will play at 5 p.m.
The varsity Tigers will travel to Butler as the No. 4 seed on Friday to face No. 1 seed Choctaw County at 6:30 p.m.
Escambia County 50,
T.R. Miller B-team 38
The B-team Tigers of T.R. Miller were outscored 13-2 in the first quarter to drop a 12-point loss to Escambia County Tuesday in Atmore.
Trailing by 11 points after the first quarter, the Tigers were outscored 14-10 in the second quarter to go in at halftime down 27-12.
In the third quarter, Escambia County pushed their lead to 43-27 after a 16-15 advantage in the quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller outscored the Blue Devils 11-7 to cut into the lead by four points, but could not overcome the bad first quarter as they lost 50-38.
Darrion Salter led the Tigers with 19 points and Jerric Woods chipped in six points.
Mark Bryant and Randy Davis both had five points in the loss for the Tigers.
T.R. Miller Lady Tigers 64,
Escambia County 44
The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers built a big first half lead against Escambia County Tuesday before having to hold on late to get the win.
The Lady Tigers built a 21-6 first quarter lead and then outscored the Lady Blue Devils 28-13 in the second quarter to lead 49-19 at the halftime break.
In the second half, both teams opened the third quarter up slow as T.R. Miller held a 4-3 advantage to extend their lead to 53-22 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Escambia County stormed back with a 22-11 fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Lady Tigers earned the 20-point win.
Nakiya Smith led with 19 points and Leah Brundidge added 15 points.
Keydra Shedrone had 11 points and Courtney Jones had six points.
Desiree Gibbs chipped in five points and Courtney Carter, Diamond Middleton, Elizabeth Reed, and Shay Kiser all had two points in the win.
The Lady Tigers were 10-of-14 from the free throw line while Escambia County was 12-of-21.
Escambia County 47,
T.R. Miller Tigers 38
Leading by two points, 9-7, after the first quarter, the Tigers were outscored 12-3 in the second quarter by Atmore to remain winless on the season with a 47-38 loss.
T.R. Miller was outscored 11-8 in the third quarter to fall behind 30-20 heading into the fourth quarter but outscored Atmore 18-17 in the fourth quarter to cut the lead by one.
Derrick Riley and Keenan Pride both had 10 points each to lead the Tigers. Terez Lane added nine points in the loss and Walter Smith had three points.
Wes Dickey and Antonio Payne both had two points each for T.R. Miller.
