Every player dreams of hitting a game winning shot for his or her team.
That moment and dream came true for W.S. Neal Eagle senior player Sam Ewing Friday night.
Not only was it an exciting moment for Ewing and his team as they pulled off a 47-46 overtime win over Flomaton at home, but it was also on senior night.  The win improved the Eagles to 14-10 with the win.
Not only was Ewing excited about the win, but head coach Chuck Phillips was proud for Ewing, his team, and his seniors.
W.S. Neal led 12-5 after the first quarter and 20-17 at halftime following Flomaton’s 12-8 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Flomaton cut the Eagle lead to two points with an 8-7 third quarter and a 27-25 W.S. Neal lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal looked like they would go on and take the win in regulation with a 7-0 run to hold a 36-29 lead with 4:37 left in the game.
From that point, Flomaton outscored W.S. Neal 11-4 to end regulation tied 40-40 and forced the overtime.
W.S. Neal missed the front end of a one-and-one with 33 seconds left to play leading 40-39. Flomaton grabbed the rebound and hit one-of-two free throws with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 40-40.
Bob Elliott’s 3-pointer as time expired for the Eagles sent the game into overtime.
In the extra period, both teams alternated points and W.S. Neal held a 45-44 lead with 53 seconds left.
Missed free throws by both teams kept the game close until a Hurricane basket with 9 seconds left gave Flomaton a 46-45 lead.
After the made basket by Flomaton, W.S. Neal brought the ball up court when Ewing hit with time expiring to get the win by one point.
W.S. Neal shot 8-of-19 from the free throw line in the win while Flomaton shot 10-of-27.
In overtime, W.S. Neal was 1-for-3 and Flomaton was 0-for-4.
Ewing led with 16 points and joined in double figures by Bob Elliott with 11 points and Rashad Crook with 10 points.
Jeremy Nicholson added eight points and Tra Dixon had two points.
The Eagles will compete in the area tournament as the No. 4 seed Friday in Mobile against No. 1 UMS-Wright. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Pleasant Home 50,
W.S. Neal 43
The Eagles of W.S. Neal ended their regular season with a 50-43 loss on the road at Pleasant Home to finish with a 14-11 record.
In an evenly matched first quarter, Pleasant Home held a 10-9 lead after the first quarter before both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter as the Eagles trailed 21-20 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Pleasant Home held a 14-12 advantage to extend their lead to 35-32 after the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles fell to a 15-11 run to lose by seven points.
W.S. Neal shot 5-of-10 from the free throw line while Pleasant Home shot 15-of-26.
Nicholson led with 13 points and Ewing had nine points.
Crook added six points to the score.
Elliott had four points along with Ashton Elliott.
Monterrius Culliver added three points and Colby McCorvey added two points along with Tra Dixon.
