A Flomaton woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical crews Tuesday following an early-morning crash near Evergreen.
Degee Darlene Wiggins, 38, of Flomaton, died when the 2007 Chevy Silverado truck she was driving struck a tractor-trailer carrying logs on U.S. 84 near the Lily Pond Road and County Road 59 intersections.
The accident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. with Evergreen Police and other emergency response teams arriving on the scene within four minutes of notification.
According to reports by investigating officer John Peavy, Wiggins failed to slow her vehicle as it approached the log truck and struck the truck in the right rear of the log trailer.
Evergreen Police Officer Sean Klaetsch also is assisting in the investigation.
The driver of the 1996 International truck, William Lee Henson of Red Level, was uninjured in the incident. Grady Mclain of Andalusia, who was not a passenger in the truck at the time of the incident, owns the truck.
Wiggins’ body was transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile by Conecuh County EMS personnel for an autopsy, the report stated.
Wiggins, who was also known as Degee Darlene White, was remembered during funeral services held Friday at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel. She is survived by her parents, Steve and Linda White of Flomaton; a daughter, Kiele Cristin Smith of Brewton; a sister, Stevie (Tim) Ward of Brewton and a grandmother, Sara Cochran of Vaiden, Miss.
