Hunters and outdoorsman, men, women, children, camouflage, and Alabama apparel set the scene Saturday night at Brewton’s First Baptist Church for the 19th annual Wild game Supper.
An overflow crowd jammed the sanctuary to hear former University of Alabama football player Siran Stacy speak at the event.
Stacy, 51, spoke to the crowd with a powerful message titled “36 days” and referenced Joshua 7:10-12 and secret sins.
The Geneva High School graduate went on to play at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas before lettering at the University of Alabama from 1989-1991.
Also during the 10 days, Stacy said he went without cell phones and television and was just listening to God.
In early January, Stacy said he went on a sabbatical to Pasadena to watch Alabama in the BCS National Championship game.
After the race, Stacy’s days were filled with speaking events from Athens, to Tuscaloosa, to Dothan, and in Brewton Saturday night.
One of the themes of Stacy’s speech — which amounted to a sermon — was the “secret sin.”
Stacy told the audience about the great tragedy of his life — the night that he was seriously injured in an accident that killed his 36-year-old wife Ellen Stacy, a former volleyball player at Alabama; 18-year-old Lequisa, a budding softball player; Bronson, 10, Sydney, 8, and Ellie, 2. His daughter, Shelly, 3, survived as they were hit by a drunk driver.
Stacy said he came out of the coma on Nov. 29, 10 days after the wreck, and then had to go to the funerals.
On Nov. 30, Stacy said he was going to another funeral believing that God was going to bring his family back.
Stacy said he has been able to make peace with God about the accident.
