On a cold Wednesday afternoon in Brewton, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball earned a split in their first games of the season in a rescheduled game with Central Alabama from last week.
The Lady Warhawks lost game one 10-2 before rebounding in game two to claim a 4-2 win in six innings due to darkness.
JDCC will be back in action today and Sunday when they play in the Faulkner State round robin tournament.
Game one: CACC 10, JDCC 2
It took the fourth inning before either team scored, but CACC scored four runs in the inning and added six over the next three innings while JDCC was held to only two runs to take a 10-2 win.
CACC scored one run in the fifth, three in the sixth, and two in the seventh to drop JDCC to 0-1.
JDCC was held to only four hits in the loss but was led by Elise Schanley who had JDCC’s two RBIs on a two-run homerun in the fourth inning.
Schanley was 2-for-3 in the loss and Aleah Payne was 1-for-3.
Sarah Dunaway was 1-for-1 at the plate for the Lady Warhawks.
Brittany Linton took the loss on the mound as she went six innings allowing two earned runs (eight total) on six hits, walked six and struck out three.
Jessica Myrick went the final inning allowing no earned runs (two runs), walked one and struck out two.
Game two: JDCC 4, CACC2
JDCC got their first win in game two as they scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie to improve to 1-1.
JDCC led 1-0 in the second inning when Payne homered. CACC tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning only to see JDCC take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Dunaway doubled to scored Payne.
CACC tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning but JDCC scored two runs in the bottom of the inning when Tiffany Duncan singled and an CACC error scored Candice Lawrence and Haley Wilborn and JDCC won 4-2 after the game was called due to darkness.
Payne was 2-for-2 with one RBI and a homerun and CaSandra Yarbrough was 1-for-1. Dunaway was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a double in the win.
Lacy Wiggins took the win as she went the complete game six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out four.
