Next stop: Regionals|Lady Tigers beat Calhoun

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers will now be heading to the South regional in Mobile to have a chance to head to Birmingham to defend their class 3A title as they defeated Calhoun Thursday night in Brewton 65-38.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 24-2 as they made quick work of the Lady Tigers of Calhoun to get the 27-point win. T.R. Miller will play in the South regional in Mobile at Mobile’s Mitchell Center Thursday at 6 p.m. against Slocomb who defeated Dale County 69-27.
Jackson said defense is always the key and was Thursday night.
The Lady Tigers used an 8-0 run in the first quarter to take a 10-2 lead with 4:41 left in the first quarter and went on to lead 20-6 at quarters end.
The Lady Tigers then used a 9-0 in the second quarter to outscore Calhoun 14-8 in the third quarter and take a 34-14 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Lady Tigers of Brewton hold an 11-0 run to lead 55-24 heading into the fourth quarter as they held a 21-10 scoring advantage in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Calhoun cut the lead by four points as they outscored T.R. Miller 14-10 in the quarter but it was not enough as the Lady Tigers cruised and took the win.
T.R. Miller shot 11-of-22 from the free throw line in the win while Calhoun was 0-3.
The Lady Tigers had three scorers in double figures with only five players scoring.
Nakiya Smith led the Lady Tigers with 26 points and was followed by Keydra Shedrone with 16 and Desiree Gibbs with 11 points.
Leah Brundidge followed with nine points and Courtney Jones had three points  in the win.
