Deacon Clarence McCreary Sr., 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at a nursing facility in Conecuh County. He was an active member of the Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Nymph Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearlie Dees; two sisters, Mary Randall and Ruby Walton and two brothers Miller Dees and George Dees.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosetta McCreary; five sons, Clarence McCreary Jr., Sammy L. (Miranda) McCreary, Robert (Melanie) McCreary, Lonnie (Marjorie) McCreary, all of Evergreen, and Jerome Allen of Brewton; four daughters, Lula Holmes of Brewton, Minnie Likely of Mesquite, Texas, Rose M. McCreary and JoAnn Williams, both of Evergreen; two brothers, Clifton L. Lane of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Earlie (Cindy) Dees of Albion, Mich.; three sisters, Nellie B. Dees of Newport News, Va., Gertie (Fred) Fountain of Evergreen, and Annie Pearl Howard of Brewton; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; one aunt, Willie B. Travis of Evergreen; a caregiver, Becky Peacock of Evergreen; five special friends, Robert Lee Franklin, Roosevelt Harris, Sanford Avant, David Dees, and Bernard Anderson Sr. of Montgomery and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John O. Meek officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
