While the weather was not the greatest for the T.R. Miller Tiger 2010 spring training, Tiger head coach Jamie Riggs said this year’s spring training was one of the better ones he has seen.
The Tigers finished off their two week spring training period with their annual Red and White game Tuesday night at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
Riggs also noted how pleased he was of his team’s effort despite the weather—which included a missed day last Friday due to snow.
Riggs also said he was pleased with his coaching staff.
The Tigers had 92 players on their Red and White game roster with players set to be freshmen to seniors for the 2010 season.
In the game Tuesday, Riggs said he was please with what he saw in the scrimmage.
T.R. Miller went 10-2 last season and lost in the second round of the state playoffs. The Tigers lose 17 seniors from the 2009 season.
While some key players from that squad will be lost, Riggs said some players and seniors-to-be stepped up during the week.
Riggs said the Tigers will have their quarterback (Wil Riggs, senior) back and running backs (Anthony Herbert and Jaren Jackson among others.
On the offensive line, Riggs said experience returns so he thinks on the offensive side, his team needs to take care of the ball and find receivers.
Defensively, Riggs sees more depth on the line.
In the secondary, Riggs said some guys are back like Anthony Herbert.
One thing Riggs said you want to do in the spring is get ready and organize for the fall. He is always interested in who is ready for the fall and who he can put in a game and play and that is what you want to find out.
The Tigers will stay in class 3A, but will be in a new region with Bayside Academy, Clarke County, Excel, Montgomery Academy, Montgomery Catholic, Trinity Presbyterian, and Washington County.
