City to help support Little League softball

Girls in the Brewton will have an increased opportunity to participate in a Little League Girls Softball organization thanks to funding approved Tuesday by the Brewton City Council.
Roger Chapman, a member of the Brewton Recreation Board, asked the council to support the effort to the tune of $5,000.
Chapman said the funding requested would help offset costs associated with startup of the League.
The league formed will also be able to participate with other Little League softball teams in interleague play, including teams in Flomaton and East Brewton.
Funding for $5,000 for the upcoming season was approved by the council with a re-evaluation of the success of the program to be made prior to budgeting for the 2011 fiscal year.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Ted Jennings appointed two members of the council to work on a committee headed by Spinks Megginson in regard to a “Storm Ready” plan for the city. Councilmen Dennis Dunaway and Fred Barton will serve in that capacity.
