JDCC baseball gets win, others fall

In a battle of the Jefferson’s Saturday at home in Brewton, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team edged out Jefferson State 4-1.
The win improved the Warhawks to 3-4 this season.
The Warhawks held Jefferson State to one run in the top of the third inning while scoring one run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Two runs came in the fourth inning and one more in the bottom of the eighth inning to get the win.
JDCC was out hit in the win by one as the Warhawks had five hits to Jefferson State’s six.
Michael King took the win on the mound for JDCC going eight innings. He allowed no earned runs on six hits, walked four and struck out four.
Brewton native and former W.S. Neal Eagle William Shell went 1/3 of an inning and had one strikeout.
Zach Payne went 2/3 of an inning and allowed two walks.
Stephen Scoggings went 1-for-3 at the plate and Matthew Watkins went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Blake Long was 1-for-1 and Ryne Phillips was 1-for-3 in the win. Reid Wynn was 1-for-4 with one RBI for JDCC.
JDCC was set to take on Pensacola Junior College  Tuesday and will be back in action Thursday at home in a doubleheader against Mississippi Gulf Coast. Game time is noon and 2 p.m.
Softball
The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team lost a doubleheader to PJC Friday at home to fall to 3-5.
The Lady Warhawks lost 5-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
The Lady Warhawks will travel to Northwest Florida Thursday for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
PJC 5,
JDCC 0
JDCC had only three hits in a 5-0 loss to PJC in game one.
PJC scored one run in the first and two in the second to lead 3-0 and added two more runs in the sixth inning to get the win.
Tiffany Duncan led JDCC at the plate as she was 1-for-3 with a double. Kristin Myers was 1-for-2.
Aleah Payne was also 1-for-2 for the Warhawks in the loss.
Jessica Myrick took the loss on the mound for JDCC going six innings. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out two.
The loss dropped JDCC to 3-4.
PJC 3,
In game two, PJC scored one run each in the fourth and two in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead and held JDCC scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning to drop the Lady Warhawks to 3-5 overall with a 3-1 loss.
Just like in game one, JDCC was held to five hits in the loss.
Duncan was 2-for-4 and Myers was 1-for-2. CaSandra Yarbrough was 1-for-3 and Payne was 1-for-3.
Lacey Wiggins took the loss on the mound as she went six innings allowing six hits, three runs (one earned), four walks, and four strikeouts.
Basketball:
The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team was outscored 37-12 in the first half Thursday night against Chattahoochee Valley to fall to 5-18 overall. The game loss brought the Warhawks record to 4-11 in conference play.
With the Warhawks down by 25 points at the half, JDCC outscored Chatt Valley 48-45 in the second half. The points wouldn’t be enough with the team losing by 22 points, 82-60.
Kentrail Brown led the Warhawks in the loss as he posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Logan Campbell also had 15 points in the loss for JDCC and Marquis Williams finished with 11 points and led with one block.
Jamye Goddin chipped in nine points in the game.
Damien Jackson added six points and led with six assists and one steal along with Brown.
Dennis Miler added four points for JDCC.
JDCC shot 36 percent from the field in the loss (24-for-67) and was 7-for-23 from the 3-point area for 30 percent.
The Warhawks were 5-of-11 from the free throw line for 46 percent in the loss.
The Warhawks will end their regular season on the road at Bishop State Thursday at 7 p.m.
