WSN Lady Eagle softball now 2-0 to start season

In a game that saw 31 combined runs, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team improved to 2-0 Thursday night at Escambia County High School in Atmore with a 17-14 win.
The Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal used a six-run first inning to hold a 6-2 lead after two innings of play.
The Lady Eagles would take a 7-2 lead into the fourth inning after plating a run in the top of the third inning.
W.S. Neal would score three runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead, but Atmore scored four runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 10-6.
The Lady Eagles would respond with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 14-6 lead but have their lead cut to two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after a six-run fifth inning that cut the lead to 14-12.
Both teams would add one run each in the sixth inning as W.S. Neal held a 15-13 lead into the seventh inning.
In the seventh inning, W.S. Neal scored two runs to hold a 17-13 lead and held on for the three-run win after the Lady Blue Devils scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Kena Ellison was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Eagles with one RBI, three runs scored and two walks.
Jade Danley was 2-for-3 with one RBI, two runs scored, and two walks.
Britta Wood was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks.
Every starter for the Lady Eagles had at least one hit on the night giving W.S. Neal a total of 13 hits.
Kaitlin Hadaway went the distance on the mound and earned the win. Hadaway went seven innings and allowed four earned runs, walked five and struck out eight.   
One negative for the Eagles according to Haney was their defense.
