D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital is hoping residents will lace up their running shoes and take off for the hospital’s second annual Relay for Life 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 20.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. and will help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Last year, more than 100 people participated.
The walk/run will start at Encore Sports, Cooper said, and the route will be the same as last year as runners will proceed down Belleville Avenue to Henderson Street to Evergreen Avenue, proceed on Evergreen Avenue to Brewton Elementary, proceed alongside the school to Belleville, cross back over Belleville and finish at the hospital.
Early registration (through March 19) will be $20 for adults and $10 for children, ages 8-14. The cost on the day of the run (between 7-7:30 a.m.) will be $22 for adults and $10 for children.
Runners will pick up a T-shirt at registration, and in order to get a T-shirt they should register early, make their checks payable to American Cancer Society and submit by March 13, Cooper said.

The 2010 East Escambia Relay for Life event is planned for May 1 on the campus of the Brewton Area YMCA on Belleville Avenue in Brewton. For additional details, contact Sharon Peacock at 809-4845. More than 20 teams have signed up for the Relay event.
