A former Brewton Middle School teacher at T.R. Miller High School assistant football and baseball coach will serve two years in prison after pleading guilty on drug charges this week.
Daniel Wilson, 28, of 106 Spruce Street, made the plea of guilty on a charge of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance before Circuit Judge Bert Rice Wednesday.
Rice sentenced Wilson to 15 years but ordered him to serve two years in prison followed by a three-year period of probation.
Wilson, who was free on a $130,000 bond, was arrested in May 2009 on charges of possession of marijuana, distribution of a controlled substance, and distribution of drug paraphernalia after a three-month investigation by the Brewton Police Department.
Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin previously said Wilson was arrested after undercover officers made a controlled buy of marijuana at a local motel last year. The buy and arrest came after officers with the Brewton Police Department Narcotics Division conducted a three-month investigation in to complaints that Wilson was selling marijuana.
McGougin said officers had rented two rooms at Days Inn and called to order marijuana from Wilson. When arrived at the motel he sold marijuana to officers under video and audio surveillance. After marked cash changed hands, the buyer signaled other officers in an adjoining room who entered and arrested Wilson.
