One of the ‘best-kept secrets” in town will finally be out in the open Thursday as students and faculty at Escambia Career Technical Center hold demonstrations at Burnt Corn Creek Park.
EBCTC Principal Jane Henderson said she is excited about letting the secret out about what goes on at the school.
Demonstrations by students and faculty will be conducted from noon to 6 p.m. March 18, Henderson said.
Departments including masonry, automotive, welding, building construction, forestry, childcare, and health science will offer demonstrations.
Masonry class students will build a BBQ pit and a straight wall in common bond. Students of the automotive department will show how computers are being utilized in the automobile industry. The welding class will build a BBQ grill and do some metal artwork and the building construction class will be constructing a smart year-round doghouse. The forestry department will demonstrate a chain saw operation and compass course while others show how to make faculty ID tags and bookbinding. The children who attend the EBCTC childcare classes will have an education and training-field day. Students of health science will take blood pressures, pulse, weight, and height and perform vision screening.
Henderson said bluebird houses will be available for sale and concessions will also be sold.
Activities of the day will be taped by some of the students enrolled in television production.
Todd Williamson, who is the agri-business instructor at W.S. Neal High School, will be with his class who have made Adirondack chairs and even a swing.
The event is being held in conjunction with countywide parent-teacher conference day.
