With funding cut at the federal level for agencies like the 21st Circuit Judicial Drug Task Force and other similar agencies, funds have to be found in other places.
Members of the Task Force are teaming up with the Brewton Police Department to hold a unique fundraising event at the Escambia County Stockyard.
A dozen vehicles will be on the auction block Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with proceeds from the sale to benefit the local war on drugs.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said the vehicles up for auction Saturday are vehicles that have been seized during drug arrests.
Lambert said the money raised through the auction would benefit the Narcotics Division of the Brewton Police Department as well as the Drug Task Force Unit.
Brewton Narcotics Division Director Bryan Davis said the auction will be of great importance to his department in helping to secure funds to continue their fight against illegal drug activity in Brewton.
Included in the auction will be a Chevy S-10 pickup truck (low rider), Honda Civic, GMC Jimmy, Pontiac Safari, Toyota pick-up, Mitsubishi pick-up, Oldsmobile sedan, Ford F-150 pick-up truck, Monte Carlo, Chevrolet Corvette, Lincoln Navigator and Ford F-150 pick-up truck.
The Escambia County Stockyard is located on U.S. 31 South near behind Southern Pine Electric Cooperative.
Auctioneer Stanley Johnson will be the emcee of the sale. Some vehicles have titles; others have bills of sale only. All vehicles will be sold on an as is, where is basis.
