East Brewton is working to clean up the city and efforts are paying off with working being done on dwellings at Dauphin’s Mobile Home Park on Dauphin Street.
The park, now owned by Lynn Pitts, is located off U.S. 41 in East Brewton and has more than 20 units, many of which are in a state of disrepair.
City Inspector Lawton Shipp said the work to clean up, repair and remove mobile homes at the park is under way.
Otis Floyd, who previously owned the park, was told in a January council meeting that work to improve the condition of the park would need to be done or city officials would take action to clean the property.
Floyd told members of the council that finances had limited his ability to make the needed repairs, but would work to comply with their requests.
Since January, Pitts, who was the lien-holder on the property, has taken back ownership of the property and has already begun work to make the needed repairs, Shipp said.
Pitts came before the East Brewton City Council on Monday asking for time to make the needed repairs to the mobile homes.
The request was granted, giving Pitts 180 days to make improvements at the location.
Shipp said he has confidence in Pitts’ keeping his word to clean up the property.
East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said the city’s efforts to make, and keep, the city clean is hampered with such cases.
City officials say 25 mobile homes and two houses in the park are found to be in need of foundational and cosmetic repairs.
