Jefferson Davis baseball takes two from ASCC

The Jefferson Davis Community College baseball team took two-of-three games from Alabama Southern over the weekend in Monroeville to improve their record to 8-16 and 3-6 in conference play.
JDCC will return home Friday and Saturday when they take on Central Alabama. Game time for Friday is at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday will begin at noon and 2 p.m.
JDCC 6,
Alabama Southern 5
Alabama Southern scored the first five runs of the game in the first three innings, but the Warhawk baseball team scored the last six in the final two innings, including five in the top of the ninth, to win 6-5 over the Eagles in Monroeville Friday.
Ryan Jacobs was 1-for-4 at the plate in the win and Mikey McMillon was 1-for-5.
Zach Payne was 1-for-4 with four RBIs and a grand slam and Blake Long was 3-for-5.
Taylor Register was 1-for-4 and Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-1.
Andrew Favant picked up the win on the mound for the Warhawks as he went eight innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out four.
Shane Ikner went the final inning and allowed no runs or hits and struck out three.
JDCC 12, ASCC 5
In the second game of the series, Michael King pitched six strong innings and received a big boost when JDCC scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away. Sam Sharpe pitched the final three innings preserving the win.
ASCC 4, JDCC 2
In the third game of the series, Alabama Southern used good pitching to take down the Warhawks and came out on top by a score of 4-2.
Shane Ikner took the loss for the Warhawks but showed a valiant effort pitching six complete innings of ball after being called on to perform out of the bullpen in Friday’s win.
In other games, JDCC’s Warhawk baseball team split an away game at Huntingdon last Monday to improve their record to 6-15 overall.
JDCC lost game one 7-0, but after being shutout in game one, shut out Huntingdon in game two 11-0 to get the win.
Game one: Huntingdon 7, JDCC 0
JDCC had three hits and three errors, as they were shutout in game one while Huntingdon plated seven runs.
Zach Payne and Adam Pouncey were both 1-for-2 at the plate in the loss while Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-3.
Harry Haring took the loss on the mound for JDCC as he went four innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out none.
Cody Vickrey went 1 1/3 inning allowing four runs on three hits, walked one and struck out two.
Shelby Jordan went 2/3 inning allowing one hit.
Game two: JDCC 11, Huntingdon 0
JDCC scored eight runs in the first three innings and three more in the sixth inning to shutout Huntingdon in game two 11-0.
Brewton area pitchers William Shell and Sam Sharpe combined for the win on the mound for the Warhawks with Shell getting the win going three innings and allowing two hits, walked three and struck out five.
Sharpe went three innings and allowed two hits, one walk and struck out five.
Xavier Cunningham was 1-for-1 at the plate and Eric Coley was 1-for-1 with one RBI and Jordan had one RBI.
Payne was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Blake Long was 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI.
Matthew Watkins was 1-for-1 with a double and Hambrick was 1-for-3. Taylor Register was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Tyler Walker was 1-for-3. Reid Wynn was 1-for-3 with one RBI in the win for the Warhawks.
