In a pitcher’s duel Friday afternoon in an area game between T.R. Miller and Cottage Hill in Brewton, the Tigers got the upper hand to claim a 1-0 win over the Warriors.
With the win, the Tigers finished their regular season with an 18-4 record and finished area play with a 5-1 record.
In the game Friday, Tiger pitcher Kevin Davis held Cottage Hill to only one hit, but the Tigers were held to only three hits. Both team’s hits came in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, T.R. Miller got a one out walk by Wes Dickey.
Following the second out of the inning, Dickey advanced to second on a passed ball and was followed by a hit by Davis and RBI single by Caleb McAnally for the lone run of the game.
Cody Swain had the other hit for the Tigers in the inning.
In the top of the seventh, Davis started the inning with a strikeout, but a dropped third strike put Cottage Hill’s tying run on base. The Warrior runner then stole second base with one out and was caught stealing for the second out of the inning.
Davis would strike out the last batter of the game to give the Tigers the one-run win.
Davis went the complete game and allowed one hit, walked one and hit one while striking out 17 in the win.
T.R. Miller made three errors in the game and left four runners on base while Cottage Hill left five and made one error.
T.R. Miller will be off until they travel to Wicksburg Friday for the first round of the state playoffs for a best two-of-three series.
Game time will be at 4 and 6 p.m. doubleheader Friday. If the two teams split Friday, a game will be played Saturday at 1 p.m.
Wicksburg is 18-8 and claimed the area two championship over Slocomb.
If T.R. Miller wins two games, they will play the winner of Slocomb and Bayside Academy.
T.R. Miller will be home against Slocomb or travel to Bayside next week if they win in round one.
