Following a complaint from Republican opponent Danny Joyner, Sen. District 22 candidate Jeff Peacock has met all requirements set forth by the Alabama Republican Party to be listed on the primary ballot in June, officials said Tuesday.
John Ross, executive director for the Alabama Republican Party, said Peacock provided all documentation requested from the group following a complaint from Joyner questioning Peacock’s Alabama residence.
Joyner’s complaint included that Peacock voted in Florida in 2008 and also filed his homestead exemption in Alabama in 2007.
Peacock was asked by the committee to provided any documentation he had that would show he had been a resident of Alabama for more than three years prior to the election. He provided mortgage documents, insurance records and utility bills dating back to 2005. This also proved he’d been a resident of the district for more than one year.
Peacock commented briefly on the complaint, but said he was gearing his focus more on the concerns of voters.
Joyner had no comment on the issue.
The winner of the primary between Joyner and Peacock will face incumbent Democrat Marc Keahey in the general election.
