WSN athletes heading to state

W.S. Neal’s track team will send 10 different athletes to the state track meet this Friday and Saturday after qualifying from the sectional meet over the weekend.
W.S. Neal’s boys and girls 4×100-relay teams will be heading to state along with high jump and triple jump winner Bob Elliott and 100-meter, 110-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdle winner Jeremy Nicholson.
The 4×100 boys relay team consists of Rickem Samuel, Nathan Kiser, Traa Stallworth, Sam Ewing and the 4×100 girls relay team consists of Khadijah Barton, Jasmine Barton, Glenasia Barton, Deja Stallworth.
In other events at sectionals, Breanna Hawthorne placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 24-10 ? and third in the discus with a throw of 70-2.
Bryson Peterson earned 13th place with a throw of 31-2 ? in the shot put and ninth in the discus with a throw of 82-7.
In the girls long jump, Khadijah Barton placed 12th with a jump of 11-8 ? and Sam Ewing placed seventh for the boys with a jump of 18-3.
Bob Elliott placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 44-1 and third in the high jump with 6-2. Ewing placed seventh in the high jump.
For the Lady Eagles, Brooke Brown placed eighth in the javelin, while Glenaisa Butler, Deja Stallworth, and Jasmine Barton all placed in the 100-meter dash.
Jeremy Nicholson placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.53 and Josiah Nettles placed seventh in the 200-meter dash.
Cheyenne Jackson placed 10th in the girls 400-meter dash and John Mark Regehr placed seventh in the boys.
Nicholson placed second in the 110-meter hurdles and Brooke Brown placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.
Nicholson and Nettles placed in the 300-meter hurdles with Nicholson placing sixth.
Rickem Samuel placed in the 800-meter run and Bethany Migas placed in the 1600-meter run.
Thomas McCall placed ninth in the 1600-meter run while Regehr, Mario Gomez, and Donald Hardyman all placed in the 3200.
W.S. Neal’s boys placed fifth at sectionals with 48 points behind UMS-Wright (244), B.C. Rain (194), Montgomery Catholic (80) and Alabama Christian (65). The Lady Eagles placed eighth with 16 points.
The state meet will begin Friday, April 30, and will carry over until Saturday, May 1.
The meet will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Gulf Shores.
