Area students honored by state Future Business Leaders of America

Members of Future Business Leaders of America from Escambia Brewton Career Tech Center competed at the 59th Annual FBLA State Leadership Conference in Birmingham on April 15 and 16. Students from all over the state competed in various categories that involved knowledge of business and technology. The competition involves written tests, production tests and performance-based competitions such as public speaking.
Fifteen students from EBCTC attended the conference. These students are from W.S. Neal High School, Flomaton High School and T.R. Miller High School. All of these students are in the business education program at the Escambia Brewton Career Tech Center under the direction of Robin Wood, business instructor and FBLA advisor. They competed in the following: work processing I and II, technology concepts, spreadsheet applications, desktop publishing, business calculations, business math and public speaking II.
Escambia Brewton CTC won an outstanding chapter award, membership mania award, 100 percent participation award and an award for completing the state project. Four students also won individual awards.
Jennifer Morris (FHS) won first place in word processing II, Natalie Davis (WSNHS) won 2nd place in word processing I, Jessica Tyree (FHS) won 3rd place in spreadsheet applications and Sam Nichols (FHS) won second place in technology concepts.
All first and second place participants are invited to the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn. on July 12-17.
