White tosses first no-hitter of BLL softball season

The Brewton Little League softball racers went 2-1 in their recent games to improve their record.

The Racers defeated Flomaton 13-5 and the East Brewton Racers 15-5 before falling to the Riptide 12-10.

Racers 13,

Flomaton Hurricanes 5

The Racers, (4-2), continued to improve their record as they took down the visiting Hurricanes 13-5, with great pitching from Myra Reiss, who struck out seven and allowed only one hit.

The Racers were also on track with their batters, as they combined for eight hits from eight different batters.

Leading the way was Mary Madison Brown, smacking a double, followed by Lisenby, Reiss, McDonald, Blunt, Dees, Solomon, and Qualls all with one hit each.

Racers 15, EB Racers 5

Anna Grace White hurled the first no-hitter of the season and helped the Racers take down EB Racers 15-5, and keep their winning streak alive at four.

Gabbi Solomon, Myria Reiss, and Bethany McDonald led the Racers, going 2-for-2, with Solomon, McDonald, and Mary Madison Brown pounding out doubles.

Katelyn Phillips took the loss for the EB Racers.

Riptide 12, Racers 10

The Riptide ended the Racers winning streak by topping the Racers 12-10.

Anna Kate Britton captured the win on the mound for the Riptide, and Myria Reiss took the loss for the Racers.

Malaysia Campbell led the Riptide by smacking an inside-the-park homerun.

Britton, Brianna Dees, and Miranda Edwards also had hits in the win.

Mary Madison Brown led the Racers with a triple, a single, and scored two runs and Reiss, Bethany McDonald, and Hannah Lisenby all had a hit each.

In other games, the Riptide and Red Hots were winners in recent league games.

The Riptide defeated the Red Hots 6-5 while the Red Hots defeated the East Brewton Racers 12-11.

In other games, the Riptide took down the Red Hots again 13-6 while the Red Hots took down the Flomaton Lady Canes 13-0.

Riptide 6, Red Hots 5

The Riptide came from behind in the last inning to squeeze by the Red Hots 6-5 in a thriller.

Down 5-4, with two outs in the bottom of the last inning, Alli Nelson got a base hit and scored on walks to tie the game.

Brionna Dees then stole home for the winning run for the Riptide.

Steely Ruzic took the tough loss for the Red Hots, striking out nine batters and allowing four hits.

For the Riptide, Nelson was 2-for-2 with one run and Anna Britton had a double and three RBIs.

Mallory Floyd had one hit and scored twice with Kennedy Harp, Dees, with one run each.

Tavonteva Watson led the Red Hots going 2-for=2 with three RBIs and one run. Steely Ruzic had one hit, two runs and Morgan Longmire, Jashira Dees scored one run each.

Red Hots 12,

EB Racers 11

The Red Hots squeaked out a close game with the East Brewton Racers 12-11.

Caitlin Cox went the distance striking out five and allowing only two hits to take the win for the Red Hots.

Caitlin Chavers had the loss for the Racers, allowing three hits.

Cox led the Red Hots with a blast up the gap in deep left centerfield for a triple and RBI, and scoring a run. Grace Ruzic and Madison Douglas had the other two hits. Ruzic and Tavonteva Watson had two runs each.

Stephanie Johnson and Chavers each had one hit for the EB Racers. Abbie Sessions scored three runs, with Ashley Gibson and Cheyonna Godwin crossing the plate twice.

Riptide 13, Red Hots 6

The Riptide beat the Red Hots 13-6, despite having only one hit.

Tezure Thomas had the lone hit and RBIs and one run scored while Kennedy Harp, Mallory Floyd, and Alli Nelson, scored two runs each.

The Red Hots were led by Caitlin Cox with a long double and two RBIs, and Tavonteva Watson with one hit and one RBI, and Hallie Daniel had a RBI.

Red Hots 13,

Flomaton Lady Canes 0

Steely Ruzic pitched her way out of bases loaded twice for her first shutout and led the Red Hots to a 13-0 victory over the visiting Lady Canes.

Ruzic had six strikeouts and five walks against 17 batters.

Morgan Longmire and Grace Ruzic had a hit and two runs each, with Alexis King and Tavonteva Watson crossing the plate twice.
