Candidate Profile – Danny B. Joyner

Office Sought:  Alabama State Senate District 22

What qualifies you to sere in the State Senate?

I am a leader and I have a servant’s heart. I am a Christian, conservative, Republican, in that order. Many of you know I served for many years as a law enforcement officer here in the City of Brewton attaining the rank of lieutenant before I had to leave and start my own company in order to take care of my son Brock and our family. Brock went to be with the Lord in 1998. I have been blessed by the Lord with a wonderful wife, Louise, and another son, Darren, who married Daphne Baggett who teaches biology at Reid State in Evergreen. They gave us one of the greatest gifts we have ever received, a grandson named Jeremiah Brock, after his uncle. For those of you who have grandchildren, you understand why they are called grand. My family, my community, my state and my country are very important to me. As a young boy I joined the Boy Scouts of America, which would prove to be a guiding moment in my life. I have always remembered the oath I took when I was 12. “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country….and to obey the Scout Law…to help other people at all times…to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight…” These words taken to heart as a boy were to be the foundation of my life. As a freshman college at Jefferson Davis Junior College I went to work with the City of Brewton as a Police dispatcher in 1975 and entered the police academy in 1976 and the desire to help my fellowman was fulfilled for many years in so many ways. In 1978 I was fortunate to conduct the “Just Say No to Drugs” education program in all schools located in Escambia County, Alabama from grades 1p12. During this time I was elected as the executive vice president wit the Alabama Peace Officers Association in Montgomery. I was elected law enforcement officer of the year 1983-1984. I was the youngest police officer to ever sit on the board and also chaired the legislative committee during my tenure. Additionally, I have graduated from specialized and classified FBI techniques and instruction. I am currently the CEO of Safety & Security Consultants, inc. of Brewton, Alabama. I am also the executive director and founder of the Escambia County Alabama Tea Party Patriots since February 2009. This is a non-partisan organization, which seeks to return our constitutional Republic back to the citizens of Alabama. In August of 2006, I donated a kidney to my sister, Paula and I have donated 13 ½ gallons of blood as of this date. These statements are not made out of vanity but are only disclosed so you might know who I am. My life experiences as a proven leader of men and protecting and helping my fellow man will be what I will carry with me to Montgomery to represent the people in the Alabama Senate. I promise you I will stand up and fight for all the folks who live in my district. John Wayne once said “Courage was being scared to death but saddling up anyway.” It’s time to get on our horses. I promise I will fight for you, your children and your grandchildren. You have my word on it.

What do you believe are the biggest issues facing the state and district?

That’s an easy one. We must have jobs for our citizens. We have to aggressively seek to market our natural resources to the world. Alabama is blessed with good people, good land and water and we are beneath the snow line. The largest group of people with expendable income are the baby boomers and they are about to retire somewhere. Do you ever hear of anybody retiring up north? The Senate district I will be representing if elected is burdened by runaway unemployment and a sense of despair I have not seen in my life. Without jobs there is no buying of goods, without the buying of goods and services there are no taxes, and without a minimal tax base the quality of life I our communities is disintegrating right before our eyes. Basic services in education, health, police, fire and emergency services are being curtailed more and more each day with the loss of sales tax dollars due to the unemployment. We need jobs and long-term job security now; we are in a job crisis. The spirit of the people of Alabama can and will rise to this task if they have leaders in the legislature to fight for them and with them.

How do you plan to handle those issues?

We must market the things we have in abundance. Our natural resources located in our forests should take advantage of a few things we had when I was a boy. Do any of you remember when we had waxed-paper milk cartons and brown paper bags for your groceries? All of these products were biodegradable and organic. Imagine how many plastic milk jugs, water bottles and plastic grocery bags are entering our environment every day. We can create a lot of jobs strictly by promoting new lines of green products. We already have the resources in place to produce all of these items. In Alabama Senate District 22, the largest geographical senate seat in Alabama (186 miles across) we have an abundance of land located in rural towns and counties. In order for the folks who are about to retire we need to start to work immediately on the critical infrastructure to entice them here. This in itself will create a lot of good construction jobs. We also need to encourage the construction of lakes and ponds in these rural areas. People want to build homes around water and the more water we have the more people will build, live and retire here in Southwest Alabama. The construction of a 2,600-acre lake, which would produce 62 miles of shoreline in Conecuh County, would be a good start on what I’m talking about. It can be realized if I am elected to the Alabama Senate here in District 22 within the next four years. Can you imagine what such a lake centrally located in our district with two interstate connections in Evergreen would mean to the people in the construction industry? Homes would be built, timber cut, lumber sold, hardware, roofing, etc. It would change the quality of life for our families for many years and generations to come. My vision is clear, something I learned as a Boy Scout, take advantage of the things nature gives you. We have a lot of work with but we must get at it now.

Would you do anything differently in the office than you believe is done now?

We must recommit ourselves to the ideas if the founding fathers. The acknowledgement of our Heavenly Father and HIS authority over all things and our dependence upon Him for all of our blessings should be at the top of the list. Through the constitution, the founders created an enduring framework of limited government based on the rule of law. We must seek to secure the sovereignty of the State of Alabama. We must do as the State of Arizona did and learn to take care of ourselves. We cannot depend on a federal government to protect our welfare inside our borders. Alabama’s principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities and our politics. The self-evident truths of 1776 have been supplanted by the notion that no such truths exist. The federal government today ignores the limits of the constitution, which is dismissed as obsolete end irrelevant. The conservatism of the declaration asserts self-evident truths based on the laws of nature and the nature’s God. It defends life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It traces authority to the consent of the governed. It recognizes man’s self interest but also his capacity for virtue. If we are to succeed in the critical political and policy battles ahead, we must be certain of our purpose. We must begin by retaking and resolutely defending the high ground of America’s founding principles. I will seek and fight to allow prayer back into our public schools without restrictions as long as it is student initiated. They do not check their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse door. The bible should be allowed in our schools again and a Bible study encouraged at every school. We are a Christian nation or we were. We can be again if we recognize who we were created to be. With Christ we have life and without Him we don’t. Our children and grandchildren are precious and they are worth fighting for. I have taught Sunday school for the past 28 years and I know the Lord wants to bless each and every one of us. Please join me in seeking His direction for our families, churches, towns, communities and the great sovereign State of Alabama. My name will be on the Republican primary ballot on June 1^st.
